The Aurora is an 8-story, 91-unit, mixed-use condominium building in the Bronx. Situated on the northernmost parcel of the Melrose Commons Urban Renewal Area, The Aurora was developed on the largest and longest site in the neighborhood. In response to this situation we have broken down the impact of a potentially long street wall with massing that is articulated into facades, special features, and setbacks.
The central portion of the building is shifted off center to present its main facade to the open space created by George Mead Plaza and the adjacent police precinct building as Third Avenue winds through the area. These special features were created by rotating the structural system in order to create a more open bay with vertical expression and larger glass areas. Vertical fins delineate the main residential and retail enterances.
As an ownership building, features like balconies are incorporated. Additional features that distinguish the property as an ownership building include private terraces and special finishes inside select units.
